Chapter 197 (AdSense Safe Version)

“Why do you want to see him?” Alondra asked, slightly surprised. “I’ve never met that man, but I’ve heard his background is not simple.”

Alana replied calmly, “Don’t worry. I have my own plans.”

After Alondra left, Alana told Quentin that she needed to leave the hospital for a few hours.

Quentin frowned slightly. “Ms. Lane, your injury has already healed, but you’re still pretending to be unwell. You must be careful not to arouse suspicion, or the consequences could be serious.”

“I understand.” Alana smiled lightly and reassured him, her tone relaxed. “Don’t worry about me.”

“Alright,” Quentin said, though his gaze lingered for a moment before he stepped back.

Alana quickly changed out of her hospital gown, put on a mask, and left discreetly.

Instead of going directly to Adam, she headed to a private beauty club she often visited. After a full set of treatments — from a relaxing bath to detailed skincare — she emerged looking refreshed and composed.

The stylist then carefully completed her makeup, enhancing her features with a refined and elegant look.

When her driver delivered her car and clothes, everything was ready.

Standing before the mirror, Alana studied her reflection. Confident and composed, she believed she was fully prepared.

She knew where Adam was, and without notifying him, she drove there directly.

Half an hour later, she arrived at the Imperial Palace.

Taking the elevator to the top floor, she was stopped as soon as she stepped out by several bodyguards.

“You can’t enter. Please go back,” one of them said firmly.

Alana responded in a calm and polite tone. “You may recognize me. I visited Mr. Adam previously.”

“Without Mr. Adam’s permission, no one is allowed inside,” the bodyguard replied.

“Then please inform him that Alana is here.”

The bodyguard hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Wait here.”

He walked down the corridor and stopped in front of a carved wooden door. After knocking, he spoke respectfully.

“Mr. Adam, Ms. Alana is here to see you.”

“Alana?” Adam’s voice came from inside, calm and distant. “Why isn’t she in the hospital?”

“Should I send her away?”

“Let her wait. She can come in after an hour.”

“Yes, Mr. Adam.”

The bodyguard returned and relayed the message.

“Wait an hour?” Alana’s expression stiffened slightly. She hadn’t expected to be kept waiting, but after a brief pause, she composed herself.

“Fine. I’ll wait.”

The bodyguards said nothing further, leaving her standing near the elevator.

Time passed slowly.

After an hour, Alana approached again. “May I see Mr. Adam now?”

The bodyguard confirmed once more and then nodded. “You may go in.”

Alana adjusted her hair, took a steady breath, and walked toward the large wooden door.

“Mr. Adam, I’m here.”

“Come in,” his voice replied from inside.

She opened the door and stepped in.

Adam was sitting on the sofa, his posture relaxed, one arm resting casually as he looked toward her. His shirt was slightly open at the collar, giving him an effortless, composed appearance.

For a brief moment, Alana’s heartbeat quickened.

She couldn’t help but wonder—

Was this deliberate?

The thought made her feel unexpectedly pleased.
