Buying Rings at Fengs – Part 4
Tuesday, continued …
Before Anna could respond further, a young woman entered the room, carefully positioning herself to block the view of Hou Yi and Anna from outside. She was followed by three men carrying trays laden with jewelry, which they placed on the large table before retreating to stand discreetly by the wall.
The woman introduced herself, her tone professional yet warm. “CEO Hou, Madam Hou, I am Assistant Manager Wong. Manager Yong informed me about your requests while managing the situation outside. The first thing I’d like to do is check your ring sizes to ensure the pieces you select can be adjusted perfectly, if needed.”
She pulled a small chair to the table, retrieved a ring sizer and notepad from the drawer, and carefully measured both their ring sizes. After jotting down the details, she smiled. “Thank you. Now, let me explain the options we’ve prepared for you.
“For the engagement ring, we’ve selected a few diamond solitaires from our exclusive collection. Each features diamonds sourced from the Kimberley region in Western Australia, including pink and red diamonds, all accompanied by the appropriate certifications. The diamonds range from 2 to 5 carats.”
Assistant Manager Wong turned to a tray behind her and placed it on the table. Anna glanced at the dazzling display before turning to Hou Yi. “I don’t want a large, extravagant ring. Pink diamonds are the most expensive in the world; can we rule them out?”
Hou Yi shook his head gently. “Let’s look at everything first, including the wedding ring sets. The cost doesn’t matter. What’s important is that you love the rings—you’ll be the one wearing them.”
Anna hesitated but understood. If Hou Yi’s family owned the store, it likely wouldn’t be a financial burden. She turned her attention to the tray.
As they examined the rings, both Anna and Hou Yi reached for the same one simultaneously. Anna’s cheeks flushed as their eyes met.
Hou Yi picked up the ring, his gaze soft. “Are you sure this is the one? Don’t let our shared choice pressure you. You can select another if you prefer.” He handed the ring to her for closer inspection.
Anna studied it carefully, the delicate craftsmanship and soft pink hue of the diamond captivating her. Finally, she handed it back to him. “Absolutely certain.”
Hou Yi smiled and passed the ring to Assistant Manager Wong. She examined it and nodded approvingly. “An excellent choice, CEO Hou and Madam Hou. This is a 2-carat pink diamond set in white gold. We also have the same design available in platinum and yellow gold, but …”
“This ring is perfect,” Hou Yi interrupted without hesitation.
Anna simply nodded in agreement, and Assistant Manager Wong signaled to the men to remove the engagement ring tray. Moments later, another tray was placed on the table, and Assistant Manager Wong whispered instructions to one of the assistants, who promptly left the room.
She gestured toward the tray. “Here is a selection of wedding ring sets to complement your engagement ring. However, I’ve arranged for one additional set to be brought in. There are only four sets of this design in the world, and we have the only one in the country. It features pink diamonds from the Kimberley region and was crafted to pair beautifully with your engagement ring.”
As she finished, the assistant returned, carrying a second tray. Wong carefully placed it beside the first. Hou Yi immediately picked up the unique set from the second tray and handed it to Anna.
The design was breathtaking. The two pink diamonds on the female wedding ring would nestle perfectly on either side of the engagement ring’s solitaire, forming a seamless and elegant ensemble. Anna couldn’t help but marvel at the artistry—it reminded her of ocean waves, graceful and timeless. She handed the set back to Hou Yi with a single nod.
“We’re almost certain this is the one,” Hou Yi said thoughtfully. “But we’ll look at the other sets to be sure.”
Anna placed her hand gently on his arm, prompting him to look at her. “No, I know this is the perfect set—not because it’s rare but because the design feels personal. The wave-like patterns remind me of the sea, connecting me to my home in Australia. And with the pink diamonds also being from Australia, it makes it even more meaningful. If you still want to compare, I’ll look, but …”
Hou Yi interrupted her, his voice soft yet firm. “If it’s what you want, we’ll take this set.”
