Telling Uncle Ji Feng
Friday, continued…
Hou Yi and Anna both looked up, and Anna immediately recognized the man from earlier.
“Ji Feng, shut the door behind you,” Hou Yi said sharply. “You may be a friend of my father, but that doesn’t give you the right to walk into my office without permission. How many times have I told you to knock and wait for me to invite you in?”
The door clicked shut, and Hou Yi noticed that Anna was still trembling. He pulled her back into his arms, whispering softly, “Sweetheart, I’ll take care of this. Just take a few deep breaths. You know I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Anna obeyed, taking slow, steady breaths, and soon her shaking subsided. Hou Yi held her gently, then turned his attention to Ji Feng. “Now, tell me what happened.”
“That woman…” Ji Feng began, pointing awkwardly at Anna.
“Who? My wife?” Hou Yi interrupted, raising an eyebrow. He was genuinely surprised that Ji Feng hadn’t recognized Anna yet, especially with all the rumors circulating through the company. After all, Ji Feng was the biggest gossip in the office.
“Madam Hou,” Ji Feng stammered, his face reddening.
“Yes, my wife,” Hou Yi replied, clearly enjoying Ji Feng’s discomfort. “Given your friendship with my father, I’m surprised he didn’t mention it when he saw you after our meeting on Wednesday.”
“He said something, but I didn’t really pay attention,” Ji Feng admitted, shifting uncomfortably.
“You should have,” Hou Yi said coldly. “Assistant Wang sent me the footage. There’s no way you could have thought it was deliberate. My wife apologized to you for the incident, and yet you caused a scene and bullied her over it. You know the company’s no-bullying policy. If anyone else had behaved like you, they’d be fired on the spot. Consider this your final warning, Ji Feng, because I don’t think my wife would want me to fire you today.”
“Yes, CEO Hou. I apologize to you, Madam Hou,” Ji Feng said quickly.
Hou Yi glanced at Anna, a faint smile playing on his lips. “If it were up to me, I’d say your apology comes a little too late. But I know my wife—she’ll accept it.” He paused, his tone growing serious. “However, do not tell anyone about her identity. She’s in the process of uprooting her life, and I want to give her the privacy to settle in before everyone starts asking questions. The last thing she needs is the media hounding her.”
He turned to Ji Feng with a sharp look. “My wife will likely do some part-time work in the legal department, given her skills and background. Can I trust you to help protect her within the company until I decide it’s the right time to reveal our marriage?”
