Chapter 29 Shunning Christina
Nathaniel’s voice came through the phone, cool and controlled, yet there was an underlying tension that Christina couldn’t ignore. “I assume you’re aware of the situation at the office,” he began, his tone leaving little room for ambiguity. “What’s happening there is a joke, but it’s getting out of hand.”
Christina stood still, gripping the phone tighter. “I didn’t do anything wrong. How could they all believe something like this?” Her voice faltered, a mix of frustration and hurt.
Nathaniel sighed, a sound that conveyed his understanding but also his clear displeasure. “The rumor mill spins fast, Christina, and when you’re a woman in a competitive industry, the slightest misstep can be blown out of proportion. They want to bring you down because they can’t bear to see someone like you succeed so quickly.”
She closed her eyes, the weight of his words settling heavily on her chest. “What should I do?” she asked quietly, her heart pounding. She was caught between defending herself and the need to remain professional, not wanting to give anyone the satisfaction of seeing her break down.
“There’s only one way to shut this down,” Nathaniel said firmly. “You show them that your talent speaks louder than any rumor. You’ll win this competition, and when you do, everyone will see you for what you really are—a brilliant designer, not some scandalous woman.”
Christina nodded slowly, his confidence in her giving her a slight sense of calm amidst the chaos. “I’ll do it. I’ll prove them wrong.”
“I know you will,” Nathaniel replied, the edge of approval in his voice. “But remember, don’t let anyone make you feel small. You’re more than capable of handling this.”
With a deep breath, Christina straightened her posture. His words gave her the strength she needed to face the upcoming competition, even if the odds felt stacked against her. She had to stay focused, not only for herself but for the respect of her peers.
The call ended, and she stood in the quiet of her room for a moment, contemplating her next steps. The designers at the office may have tried to tear her down, but they had no idea what she was capable of. She was going to prove them all wrong, and nothing would stand in her way.
Christina quickly packed her things, her mind racing with ideas for the competition. As she walked out the door, ready to meet the other designers at the hotel, she couldn’t shake the feeling that this would be her chance to rise above the rumors and showcase her true talent. The stakes had never been higher.
As the Golden Rose Holiday Hotel came into view, Christina’s heart beat faster. She could feel the weight of the upcoming week hanging over her, but she also knew that this was her opportunity. There was no turning back now.
