Chapter 72
Giselle proudly displayed her phone in the crowd. The photo on the screen showed Yelena with a man.
“Don’t know him, right? This is Mr. Z Hamerton! Yelena was at his welcoming dinner!”
“The third heir of Centrolis’ Hamertons?”
“Of course! He’s the real rich man!”
Everyone in the crowd looked at Yelena with envy. Mr. Z Hamerton was known for his low profile, never making public appearances, and few had the privilege of meeting him. Not only had Yelena been invited to his event, but she had even taken a photo with him. It was a rare honor.
Compliments and flattery flowed from the crowd, making Yelena feel both guilty and triumphant. She hadn’t wanted Giselle to flaunt the photo, but since no one had exposed her, she accepted the attention. So what if Cordelia had attended that night? If she dared to say anything, Yelena had her ways to silence her.
Yelena noticed Cordelia and Marcus in the crowd and made her way toward them, arms crossed. She shot a look at Giselle, who immediately understood. Giselle waved the photo in front of Cordelia, mocking her.
“I heard you went that night too, Cordelia? Why don’t I see a photo of you and Mr. Z?”
Cordelia looked at Yelena, confused.
“Sigh, an illegitimate child will always be an illegitimate child, kept in the dark forever.” Yelena quickly added, “Mr. Z’s of noble status. How could he take a photo with an illegitimate daughter?”
Cordelia frowned. “That night, weren’t you—”
“Why? Do you think you’re the only one who could enter?” Yelena sneered. “The person who welcomed you was just a Hamerton dog, while I was personally welcomed by Mr. Z!”
Marcus paused, trying to maintain his composure. Yelena was getting too bold with her claims. She seemed to think she could bluff those around her simply because they had never met Zephyr Hamerton.
He scowled, about to speak, when Cordelia gently squeezed his hand. She wasn’t interested in this drama. She just wanted to go home with Marcus, back to their own peaceful space.
“Cordelia, you’ll never top me!” Yelena smirked. “I got Mr. Z’s attention, but you?”
Yelena’s sharp gaze then shifted to Marcus. “You’re only worthy of marrying a scum!”
“Yeah, Mr. Z likes you so much!” Cordelia replied flatly. “If he likes you so much, why hasn’t he married you? The dinner that night was to choose his wife, wasn’t it?”
“What’s between me and Mr. Z is none of your business!”
“I’m not that free to poke my nose in it either,” Cordelia replied, “but I won’t let you off easily after you insulted my husband!” She paused and added, “Also, as sisters, let me give you a kind reminder. A man too powerful isn’t always the right partner!
“The Hamertons have such high status that not everyone can cling to them. If you want to climb high, be prepared to fall hard! You’re my sister, after all. I don’t want to see you end up too sad!”
“You—” Yelena’s anger flared. “Don’t worry. I’ll definitely be better off than you! Keep your useless husband around and stay useless for life!”
“What are you talking about? How merry!” A loud voice suddenly interrupted.
The crowd parted slightly as a man with steady steps and a polite but distant smile walked over. Oliver had overheard the mention of Mr. Z Hamerton while smoking outside and, intrigued, decided to join the conversation. He nodded at Cordelia as a greeting but then paused when his gaze landed on Marcus.
