Chapter 94
Marcus’ heart skipped a beat.
“Please don’t ever forget everything I said,” Cordelia said as she looked at him. “I just want you to be safe. I don’t care about the rest. I just want you to be safe, and that’s what matters the most to me!”
Cordelia was a gentle woman. She rarely acted in such a demanding manner, but Marcus loved her all the more for it.
He looked at her quietly as the corner of his lips turned up slightly. This was one of the rare moments he smiled from the bottom of his heart.
At that moment, he even wanted to tell her his true identity. After all, she had already said that he would always be her husband, no matter what happened. If she learned that he was not Marcus but Zephyr, she would still treat him the same, right?
He took a deep breath, forcing down the urge. He was at war with Matthew. Like a boxing match with an uncertain outcome, he did not know how long his war with Matthew would take. Before everything came to light, he didn’t want to pull her into it.
He held her tiny hand in his palm and chuckled. “Honey, trust me. I’ll win a match beautifully in the future.”
Cordelia was stunned.
“I promise you,” Marcus said sternly. “I won’t let you down.”
“Okay.” She smiled back at him, not fully understanding what he was trying to convey.
After the drip was over, Cordelia turned around to call the nurse.
At the same time, Marcus’ phone lit up, and his face darkened. When Cordelia returned, he asked gently, “Honey, can you go get me something to eat?”
“Are you hungry?” Cordelia glanced at her watch. “Dr. Stafford said you’d better have some liquid diet first. How about this? I’ll go home now and make you some porridge. You wait for me here. I’ll be back soon.”
“Okay.” Marcus nodded.
Cordelia hastily rushed toward their house.
After she left, Josiah and Fredric appeared outside the ward.
Marcus let out a snort as they entered the room with smiles.
“Z, do you know how worried we were?”
Marcus looked at them and smiled. “I’m not that seriously injured. There’s nothing to worry about. Besides, that guy was so weak. He’s even weaker than my former trainer.”
“But you’re still injured,” Fredric said, his voice laced with concern. “Don’t forget that you haven’t fully recovered from the plane crash, and now—”
Seth entered the ward. After running a basic check on Marcus and confirming that he was fine, he reminded Marcus of the things he needed to be cautious about.
Before leaving, Seth nodded at Josiah and Fredric. Once Seth had left, Josiah smacked his lips scornfully.
“So, he’s that quack doctor?”
“Mind your words!” Fredric glared at him. “Dr. Stafford has helped us a lot while Z was recuperating in that village!”
“That doesn’t mean he’s free of suspicion!” Josiah retorted, still not convinced. “What if he’s on Matthew’s side as well?”
Marcus’ eyes turned cold as he asked, “Did you guys find something?”
“Z, the person we’re investigating is Oliver. It has nothing to do with Dr. Stafford. Don’t listen to Josiah,” Fredric explained, clearing his throat and lowering his voice. “According to our investigation, we found something about Oliver. The Hamerton Group supplies part of the funds in his company. However, they keep it a secret. Normal people wouldn’t know about it, not even your grandfather.”
Marcus clenched his fist.
“According to my speculation, he might want to test you, so he showed up at the match. After you were sent to the back of the ring, he tried to follow after you. Luckily, Cordelia stopped him.”
“Just because you look a lot like Marcus, you could replace him,” Fredric continued. “I think Oliver must have realized something. But as long as Matthew doesn’t show up in front of you to justify your identity, he won’t dare to…”
