Chapter 25

“It went well,” Abel spoke confidently on the phone while driving. “She believes everything I said and agrees to rent out a room to me.”

“Are you sure you want to go undercover to investigate this?” Luca asked, concern edging his voice. “I’m worried it might be too much for you, Mr. Abel.”

“I have to do this on my own,” Abel replied with determination. “I need to find out if she is the Wonder Doctor. I can’t fail Granddad.”

As the call ended, Luca sat in his car, pondering. Was discovering Emmeline’s true identity really Abel’s sole goal? There had to be something more behind this mission, something deeper.

Meanwhile, Emmeline was on the phone with her assistant. “Benjamin, could you please get me a second-hand electric bicycle?”

Benjamin, taken aback, asked, “Ms. Louise, may I ask why? I’m sure you can always use any of the 20 luxury cars under Adelmar Group.”

“No, I can’t!” Emmeline replied, her voice firm. “I need an electric bicycle, and it has to be a used one. Get me one as soon as possible!”

Despite his confusion, Benjamin followed her instructions and soon brought over a second-hand electric bicycle. The bike looked well-used, its frame slightly worn.

“Thank you!” Emmeline said, satisfied with the purchase. She glanced at Benjamin. “You should leave now before Abel gets here.”

“Abel? Why would he be here?” Benjamin raised an eyebrow in question.

Emmeline explained the situation, and Benjamin’s expression darkened. “You should be careful, Ms. Louise. I don’t think he’s to be trusted.”

“I asked you for this electric bicycle precisely because I don’t trust him,” Emmeline smirked. “He won’t find out anything he thinks he will. I’ll make sure of his failure and disappointment.”

Benjamin nodded, admiring her brilliance. “You are as clever as ever, Ms. Louise. Still, please take care of yourself and don’t get hurt.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Emmeline reassured him confidently. Benjamin smiled and left, taking a shortcut out of the building.

Shortly after, Abel arrived at Emmeline’s place with Luca. Luca handed over two large suitcases to Emmeline and, with a polite smile, said, “Please take care of Mr. Abel, Ms. Louise.”

Abel shot Luca a glare. “I’m perfectly fine on my own.”

Emmeline merely smiled and replied, “Of course! I’ll make sure he never goes hungry with me.”

“I’m sure Mr. Abel can get his own food,” Luca said, chuckling.

“I certainly can. I think you should leave now,” Abel said, clearly impatient. Luca quickly took the hint and left to avoid further embarrassing Abel.

Emmeline carried Abel’s suitcases up to the third floor. His room was neat and ready for him. Abel took out a bedsheet from his suitcase and said, “I’m used to my own bedsheets.”

Emmeline understood immediately. He was a clean freak—there was no way he would share something as personal as a bedsheet. She took the bedsheet from him and re-made the bed with careful attention.

Abel, standing nearby, couldn’t help but watch her as she made the bed. Her curves were accentuated as she bent and moved, and his pulse quickened at the sight. His mind flickered back to what had happened five years ago, but he quickly shook it off. He shouldn’t be thinking about Emmeline. It was Alana who had set him up back then, not her.

Once the bed was made, Emmeline helped Abel unpack and then gave him a brief tour of the other rooms in the house.

“It’s not a fancy place, but I’m sure you’ll find everything you need here,” Emmeline said. “I hope you won’t mind staying in a simple place like this.”

“I don’t mind at all,” Abel assured her with a smile. “This place is much better than where I stayed during my training overseas.”

“Good to know,” Emmeline replied, heading downstairs. “Follow me. I’m going to cook for the kids. You’re welcome to join us.”

“How about we dine out?” Abel suggested. “It’s my treat to thank you for renting out to me.”

The triplets, who had been waiting by the door, perked up at the offer. “Can we also visit the theme park?” they asked in unison, their eyes wide with excitement.

Before Emmeline could respond, Abel answered swiftly, “Sure. Let’s go!”

The triplets squealed with joy. “Let’s go, Daddy!”

Emmeline’s face instantly soured. “Hold on,” she said, narrowing her eyes at Abel. “This man is not your Daddy, okay?”
