Chapter 79
“The nanny said Ms. Louise left for the hospital early this morning,” the bodyguard explained.
“Oh,” Abel responded, realizing why he hadn’t heard anything from her room. He’d thought she was still upset with him.
After a moment of thought, he reached for the breakfast boxes the bodyguard was holding. “Let me deliver it.”
The bodyguard handed the boxes to Abel, and Abel made his way to the hospital.

In the ICU ward, Hesperus had already woken up, though his face was still pale.
He had inhaled the dirty water from the pond, and his lungs had become infected.
Emmeline carefully administered a few injections, and soon enough, Hesperus looked a little better.

“Mommy,” Hesperus said, his voice shaking with emotion as he reached for her hand. “I’m sorry I made you worry.”
“Don’t say that, my sweet boy,” Emmeline said softly, placing a finger over his lips. She was struggling to keep back her tears. “I’m just so happy you’re okay. I nearly lost you.”
“I’m feeling better now.” Hesperus wiped the tears from Emmeline’s cheeks. “I’ll stay close to you so you won’t have to worry about me anymore.”
“Mm, you’re a good boy, Star.” Emmeline smiled, though it was hard to hold back her emotions.

To her, Sun, Moon, and Star were her everything. She would only be happy if the three boys were safe and happy.

The door to the ward opened, and Hesperus lifted his gaze over his mother’s shoulder. He saw Abel standing in the doorway.
“Daddy…”
“Why are you here?” Emmeline’s voice was cold, not turning to face him. “Didn’t I tell you not to come into the ward when I’m around?”
Abel, realizing she must have mistaken him for Adrien, cleared his throat.
“Ahem, it’s me.”
Emmeline turned her head in surprise.
“It’s you!” she said, standing up quickly. “I’m sorry, Mr. Ryker.”

Abel held out the two breakfast boxes in his hands. “I brought breakfast. One for you, and one for Star.”
Emmeline’s cheeks flushed slightly. The events from last night were still fresh in her mind, and the awkwardness lingered.
Abel felt just as uneasy. He placed the boxes on the table and walked over to Hesperus’ bed.
“Are you feeling better?” he asked gently.
Hesperus, his eyes lighting up at the sight of Abel, smiled. “Thank you, Daddy. I’m much better now.”
“That’s good to hear.” Abel patted Hesperus’ head. “Once you’re fully better, I’ll take all of you to the amusement park.”
“Yay!” Hesperus clapped his hands excitedly. “But don’t blame Timothy. He didn’t shove me into the pond on purpose.”

Abel raised an eyebrow. “Tell me, what happened last night?”
“I’ve already asked Timothy,” came a voice from behind him.
Abel turned around to see Alena and Roseline standing at the door. Alena was holding a flask in her hands.

“It was an accident,” Alena explained. “Timothy didn’t mean to do it. He tripped and accidentally pushed Star.”
“Accidents happen when children are playing and jostling,” Roseline added. “I think we should let this matter rest.”
Abel’s expression remained serious. “I wonder if the culprit is really just a child.”
Alena wiped away a tear, her voice soft. “Timothy is blaming himself. He’ll be scared if you ask him too many questions.”
“That’s right,” Alena said. “I’m here to apologize on Timothy’s behalf, and we can move on from this.”

Hesperus shook his head. “I’ve never blamed Timothy. He didn’t do it on purpose.”
“You’re a good boy, Star.” Roseline leaned over and gently touched Hesperus’ cheek. “Once you’re feeling better, come and play with us.”
“Thank you, Granny,” Hesperus said sweetly. “Sun, Moon, and I love you very much. We thought you were our real granny.”

Hearing this, Roseline’s eyes filled with tears. She smiled warmly at him.
“You can still treat me as your real granny,” she said, wiping away her tears. “I’ll always love you just like I do my own grandsons.”
Hesperus smiled brightly, his little heart full of love. “We love you too, Granny.”
