Chapter 92
Rosaline’s face darkened with frustration. “Abel! Don’t waste your time offering yourself. Those ingrates won’t appreciate it anyway!”
Julianna’s eyes flashed with anger. “Rosaline! Who are you calling ingrates?”
“Who, I wonder?” Rosaline shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Abel wants to save Hesperus, and this is the treatment he gets?”
“Abel is only twice removed! Do you really think he could be a match?” Julianna scoffed, crossing her arms.
“I’ll be relieved if he’s incompatible,” Rosaline said, her voice cold. “I wouldn’t want my son to endure the pain of a bone marrow extraction.”
“It’ll be hopeless anyway! So don’t waste your pity,” Julianna retorted, her voice sharp. “Take your dear CEO son and leave. I’ll find another way to help my grandson!”
Rosaline turned to Abel, gripping his hand firmly. “Let’s go, Abel. Whatever happens here is none of our concern!”
Abel frowned, resisting. “I can’t just leave. Stop bickering! I’m doing this for Star, not for anyone else!”
Alana interjected with a subtle, concerned tone, “But Abel, I’ve heard the bone marrow extraction process is incredibly painful. The chances of being a match are slim, so maybe you shouldn’t bother.”
Abel’s gaze hardened with determination. “I’m not going to give up. There’s still hope, no matter how slim it seems!”
He turned to Emmeline, his eyes softening. “Wait for me, Emma. I’ll get tested now.”
Emmeline shook her head, her voice tinged with doubt. “You shouldn’t bother. It’s impossible.”
“You won’t know unless you try,” Abel replied firmly, before heading toward the lab.
Alana quickly turned and sent a message to Cristopher. “He’s going into the lab. Make sure they only run the bone marrow compatibility test—nothing else! And if it’s a match, make sure everyone knows it’s just a coincidence!”
Cristopher responded with a chuckle, “Don’t worry, Alana. It’s a lot of work keeping all these people in the dark. How do you plan on repaying me?”
“Damn it!” Alana cursed under her breath.
“Don’t say that,” Cristopher teased. “I’ll go bald if I get sad.”
“I’ll visit your place tonight. Just follow my instructions,” Alana said impatiently.
“Sounds good. I’ll be waiting for you, Alana. Don’t worry, I’ve got everything handled!” Cristopher assured her.
The results of the compatibility test shocked everyone.
Julianna’s face flushed with embarrassment. She couldn’t bear to look at Rosaline.
In an unexpected twist, Abel’s bone marrow was found to be a perfect match for Hesperus.
“Why must it be Abel?” someone muttered.
“I can’t believe it’s him!” another person whispered in disbelief.
No one could explain the coincidence.
Alana, ever quick to hide the truth, shrugged nonchalantly. “It’s nothing extraordinary. I read about a case where an elderly man needed a liver transplant, and his daughter-in-law turned out to be the match, even though his own son wasn’t.”
“Doesn’t matter who it is, as long as my grandson is saved!” Landen said with gratitude, grabbing Abel’s hands. “Abel, I owe you one.”
“Don’t mention it,” Abel replied with a smile. “We’re family after all.”
Oscar turned to Adam, a hint of smugness in his voice. “See, Adam? This is why I chose Abel. Look at his demeanor.”
Adam looked down, his expression clouded with frustration.
It didn’t matter to Adam why his grandfather preferred Abel. What stung was that Abel was now in the position he wanted for himself.
Emmeline stood frozen, staring at Abel. A whirlwind of questions spun in her mind. Why him? Why is it him?
Rosaline, too, seemed lost in thought.
Hesperus was allergic to kiwi fruit, just like Abel. Earlier at the banquet, Julianna had mentioned that Timothy should have been one of Emmeline’s quadruplets. And now, Abel’s bone marrow was a perfect match for Hesperus.
Too many coincidences between Abel and Emmeline’s children were starting to raise alarms in Rosaline’s mind. Something didn’t sit right.
She frowned, deep in thought.
Abel, however, was oblivious to her worries as he turned to Emmeline, his face alight with excitement. “There’s hope for Hesperus! I never imagined I’d be a match!”
Emmeline buried her face in his chest, tears spilling down her cheeks. “I knew it was right to look for you.”
Abel caressed her hair lovingly, his voice soft but full of conviction. “You were right, Emma. I’ll always be here for you.”
