Chapter 46
Julianna kept talking, “Abel’s not much of a man if he refuses to marry Alana, even after she gave him a son. And now that Alana’s pregnant again, he’s making excuses, saying he never even touched her. Tch, poor Alana. She wouldn’t name the father unless Abel knocked her up.”
Emmeline’s heart sank. Julianna was right. How could Alana be carrying Abel’s child unless they had slept together? The man was a sleazeball.
It was a good thing the father of the triplets wasn’t him.
Julianna continued, “It shows Adrien to be more of a man than Abel.”
She placed her hand gently over Emmeline’s. “Emma, just say yes to Adrien. Marry him. It’ll give the kids a complete family, and you won’t have to work so hard at the café…”
Emmeline lowered her head. Did Julianna think that her and her children’s entire livelihood depended on the café?
She was the boss behind Adelmar, one of the most influential people in Struyria. Her reputation as the Wonder Doctor could earn her millions with a single medical case.
Had she really been struggling in life?
Actually, now that she thought about it, she had been. The two men who lingered around her were a constant annoyance.
“…I got a message from Adrien,” Julianna said, snapping Emmeline out of her thoughts. “He says he’ll become a one-woman man if you marry him. He’ll stop all the frolicking, stay by you and the kids, and focus on his career…”
By the time Julianna left, Emmeline was still stuck in a dilemma.
It was nearly time to pick the kids up from kindergarten, so she quickly headed to the parking lot and drove her sports car. There was no need to pick up Timothy from another school, as the Rykers had already gotten him.
But even so, Emmeline couldn’t shake the emptiness inside.
Timothy was such a sweet little guy. Would he remember this pretty mommy?
As soon as the triplets realized that Abel and Timothy weren’t around, they took notice of her mood.
“Don’t be sad, Mommy. You have us,” one of them said, his voice full of concern.
“Yeah, Mommy. Haven’t we always been with you all these years?” another chimed in.
“We didn’t have Abel and Timothy before. It doesn’t change the fact that we’re one big family,” the third one added.
“Of course! I have you in my life, and that’s enough for me. I don’t need anyone else.” Emmeline smiled, grateful for their love.
“But Daisy has a point,” one of the triplets continued. “It’s hard on Mommy to take care of all of us on your own.”
“Mommy also needs a shoulder to lean on. You might want to consider Adrien,” another suggested.
“The man is our biological father. We don’t have a problem if you’re happy to be with him,” the last one piped in.
The triplets’ words cracked Emmeline up. Though they were young, they certainly seemed to understand more than she expected.
“I don’t need Adrien. I have everything with you kids in my life,” Emmeline replied, trying to reassure them.
“But you’re young and beautiful. You need a man. Doves go in pairs,” one of them pointed out with wisdom far beyond his years.
“We’ll support you if you want a whirlwind romance, Mommy,” another added eagerly.
“That’s right. You have our full support, Mommy,” the third one said, giving her an encouraging smile.
“Alright, alright. I’ll take your advice and let a man sweep me off my feet.” Emmeline laughed, messing up their hair.
“We can be the judge of his character for you if you see Adrien as a potential man for you,” Helios said seriously.
“I thought about that. We can move into his house,” Endymion added with a wink.
“Oh, we can check if Adrien’s mom makes a good grandmother and mother-in-law,” the third triplet piped up.
“Gee, you’re getting ahead of yourselves.” Emmeline laughed, enjoying their antics.
“Well, we always have to plan ahead,” they argued back in unison.
“We can’t fight uncertain battles!” one declared dramatically.
“We have to make sure we find the right person for Mommy,” another insisted.
“Alright, enough chatter. Go wash your hands and come have your dinner.”
The triplets quickly stopped talking and lined up for the bathroom, leaving Emmeline with a warm feeling in her heart. Her kids were everything to her.
The next day, as Emmeline was on her way to drop the kids off at kindergarten, she walked out of the café and was immediately struck by the sight before her eyes.
There was a grand display of red roses at the entrance, spelling out the word “love.”
With a bouquet in hand, Adrien stood by a loudspeaker and called out, “Marry me, Emmeline! I will make you happy!”
Emmeline slapped a hand to her forehead. Had Adrien lost his mind?
She had just kicked him out yesterday, and now he was doing this?
As Emmeline stepped out from the café, Adrien immediately caught her attention. “Emma, marry me. Please accept my love for you. I will make you the happiest woman alive.”
