Chapter 88

“Get lost!” Adrien snarled, shoving the two women aside with a look of disgust. They stumbled to their feet, embarrassed, and quickly left the room.

A waiter appeared at the door, holding a small package. “Mr. Adrien, someone wants to give you a gift.”

Adrien turned around impatiently, ready to dismiss the waiter. “What now?”

Before he could react, the waiter suddenly jabbed a syringe filled with dark red liquid toward him.

“Ahh!” Adrien let out a strangled scream as the needle pierced his skin.

He stumbled backward, crashing into a table. Abel and his bodyguards rushed forward, but it was too late—the syringe had already been injected into Adrien’s body.

Adrien’s vision blurred as a coldness spread through his limbs. Panic surged within him as his heart raced.

“F*ck! Is that… AIDS?” Adrien’s voice trembled with terror.

Abel stood frozen, shocked. The realization hit him—Adrien’s blood could be fatally contaminated!

“Abel! I need a PEP injection!” Adrien yelled, struggling to breathe. He hadn’t even put on his clothes yet.

“Take him away!” Abel barked at the bodyguards.

In a flash, the bodyguards subdued the waiter, tossed him aside, and grabbed Adrien, rushing him out of the room.

From a corner of the room, Adam, perched on the top floor smoking a cigar, watched with amusement. When he saw Abel hurrying out with Adrien, he smirked.

“Don’t worry, Adrien. It’s only chicken blood, but you’ll be out of commission for a month. Hahaha! Only the owner of the Imperial Palace would come up with something like this!”

Adrien was quickly transported to Ryker’s Hospital, where he was given a PEP injection and placed under quarantine for observation.

Meanwhile, Emmeline was consumed by despair. She had reached out to Hesperus’ father to save him, but Adrien proved to be completely unreliable.

Why did it have to turn out like this? Emmeline thought. If only Adrien had been incompatible with the transplant, at least that would have given her some closure. But now, she couldn’t even test him!

If that’s the case, I don’t even need him. But what do I do about Star?

She had been working on a complete treatment plan with Robert, her master, but it wasn’t anywhere near ready.

Tears began to stream down Emmeline’s face. Why, God? Why are you doing this? Are you jealous that I have three beautiful sons?

Abel, who had been silently watching her struggle, stepped forward and gently pulled Emmeline into his arms as she began to falter. “Don’t worry, Emma. There’s another way.”

Emmeline, her voice weak, lifted her head. “What other way? I can’t even rely on the child’s father.”

Abel’s eyes softened. “We can find the Wonder Doctor. Maybe she knows what to do.”

Emmeline’s lips parted in disbelief. If the Wonder Doctor knew what to do, I wouldn’t have turned to Adrien in the first place…

It was already a miracle she had kept Star alive for four years with acupuncture. But time was running out. If only she had another year, she could have completed the miracle medicine she was developing.

“I’ll contact the Wonder Doctor now,” Abel said firmly, his determination unwavering. “As long as there’s hope, I won’t give up.”

Emmeline looked at him, her heart filled with gratitude. I can’t stop Abel from trying, not when he’s giving me so much hope.

She wiped away her tears, then discreetly silenced her phone as it buzzed with another notification.

After Abel spoke with Benjamin, she received a message.

“Ms. Louise, are you aware of Mr. Ryker’s request?”

Emmeline replied quickly, her fingers trembling. “Yes. I’m right next to him now.”

“Should I accept or refuse his request?”

“You can accept it, I suppose. It would be too cruel to turn him down,” Emmeline typed, feeling conflicted.

“But we’re powerless against Star’s condition.”

“I know. But Abel’s been helping me. I can’t disappoint him.”

“Ms. Louise, do you… have feelings for Mr. Ryker?”

Emmeline’s heart skipped a beat. This isn’t the time for such questions. She quickly typed, “This isn’t the time for idle chatter.”

“I’ll reply to Mr. Ryker then,” Benjamin responded.
