Chapter 84
Luca leaned in with a grin, watching Emmeline as she entered the kitchen. He couldn’t resist sneaking up to Abel’s side.

“She’s perfect, Mr. Ryker! Why don’t you forget about you-know-who?”

“Shut up!” Abel snapped.

Luca slapped himself playfully. “Right, right. You-know-who has your baby, doesn’t she?”

“Must you always mention her?” Abel’s tone turned sharp. “I’ve told you, she has nothing to do with me!”

Luca chose to stay quiet. If she had nothing to do with Abel, then why did she keep pestering him?

Meanwhile, Emmeline had finished preparing a mushroom and egg carbonara. She topped it with fresh parsley and served it. Abel and Luca devoured the food hungrily. After the fight with the thugs earlier, they were starving.

The meal was a welcome relief, both satisfying and comforting.

Just as they finished eating, Abel’s phone rang, cutting through the moment.

Given the late hour, the call was unexpected. Abel glanced at the screen—it was from the landline of Levan Mansion.

He answered the call.

“Where are you, my son?” Rosaline’s voice echoed through the phone. “Your father has been waiting for you. Why haven’t you come home?”

Abel sighed, exasperated. “I just left the hospital. I was worried about Hesperus.”

“But Hesperus isn’t your son, and Emmeline isn’t your wife! They’re Adrien’s wife and child. You need to distance yourself from them. Focus on Alana and Timothy. Alana is carrying your child now, and you should prioritize her.”

Abel’s frown deepened.

Emmeline had never been just an “outsider” to him, and neither was Hesperus. But Alana…

“You should go home,” Emmeline overheard the conversation and spoke from across the room while clearing the table. “If anything, you should spend more time with Timothy.”

Abel stood up, taking a deep breath. “You’re right. I should check on Timothy. He’s probably still shaken up from what happened.”

“Make sure to tell him that Star is doing better now,” Emmeline said softly.

Abel nodded. “I will.”

As he moved toward the door, he paused. “Emma, I’m only worried about Timothy.”

Emmeline nodded in understanding. “Mm. Me too.”

With that, Abel left through the door.

Emmeline stood by the window, holding the plates and cutlery, watching Abel walk across to the parking lot. The Rolls-Royce’s engine roared to life, and the headlights pierced the night.

An unexpected feeling of emptiness swept over her, something she couldn’t quite place.

She was about to carry the plates to the kitchen when her phone began to ring.

She glanced at the screen and saw it was from the pediatric department of the hospital. A sinking feeling settled in her stomach as she answered the call.

“Ms. Louise? I’m the doctor on duty tonight. Your son has suddenly developed a high fever, and he’s undergoing emergency treatment right now.”

Emmeline’s heart dropped. The first thought that raced through her mind was that Hesperus’s blood disorder might have flared up.

“I’ll be there in no time!” she replied, voice tight with urgency.

“I’ll go with you!” Daisy’s voice came from the door.

“Okay!” Emmeline grabbed the keys to her sports car, and they hurried to the hospital.

By the time they arrived, Hesperus was already in the emergency room.

“Should I inform Master Adelmar?” Daisy whispered, her concern obvious.

“Not yet. I don’t want him to worry,” Emmeline said, shaking her head.

“What should we do about Star?”

“We’ll control his symptoms with medication and arrange for a blood transfusion,” Emmeline replied. “That’s all we can do for now.”

Daisy nodded. “And now we’ve found the boy’s father.”

The doctor approached them, his face grave. “Ms. Louise, the best solution would be to perform a bone marrow transplant on the boy. If not, his condition will continue to deteriorate, and it will eventually become a serious threat to his life.”

“I know,” Emmeline replied quietly. “I’ve been searching for a suitable donor.”

“What about his father?” The doctor suggested. “That would be the fastest and safest way.”

Emmeline froze for a moment. “Yes, we just found him,” she thought.

You’re finally useful for once, Adrien.
