Chapter 93
Alana stormed forward and yanked the two apart. “Watch it, Emmeline! Don’t flirt with Abel! Your son’s father is Adrien, so it’s wrong of you to seek Abel out!”
Emmeline remained calm but firm. “I know that,” she replied. “You can’t deny that Abel saved Hesperus this time. My only goal in seeking the children’s father is to save Hesperus.”
Alana scoffed, her tone dripping with disdain. “You got lucky this time. But next time, let Adrien save your son! After all, he should be your husband!”
Abel’s voice rang out coldly. “Mind your manners, Alana. You’re in no position to speak here.”
“Abel…” Alana tried again, her voice quivering in protest.
“I told you not to call me by my name,” he snapped, his patience thinning.
“Mr. Ryker,” Alana rushed to add, “Auntie Rosaline said she’ll arrange our wedding reception as soon as possible. I’ll give you several children too!”
Rosaline nodded from behind her. “I did say that,” she agreed, her gaze more serious now. “But right now, saving Hesperus is the priority. You should get ready for the extraction procedure, Abel.”
“Mm,” Abel murmured, nodding before looking at Emmeline with a longing gaze. “Wait for me.”
Emmeline’s heart fluttered as she nodded, her voice soft. “I will.”
Just then, someone called out to her from the end of the corridor.
“Emma!”
“Sis!” It was Ethan, her brother, and his wife, Grace. To her surprise, Benjamin followed behind them.
While it wasn’t unusual for her family to visit her at the hospital, the presence of Benjamin York, CEO of Adelmar Group, caught Emmeline off guard. Isn’t he worried about exposing my identity?
Benjamin, noticing the curious stares directed at him, smiled and waved casually. “I heard what happened from Mr. Louise, and I thought I should show my concern for his relatives.”
Abel furrowed his brow, a hint of suspicion creeping into his expression. The name Benjamin York brought to mind the assistant who worked with the “Wonder Doctor.” They both shared the same name and were roughly the same height. What a coincidence.
Ethan, still holding Abel’s hand, spoke with a chuckle, “Mr. Ryker, I wonder why my sister was so blind. If only you were her sons’ father! That would be so much better!”
Abel’s face twitched, but he didn’t respond. I think I’m the one who was blind, he thought dryly.
Emmeline, exasperated, turned to her brother. “What nonsense are you talking, Ethan?”
Grace chimed in with a smile, “Your brother is just feeling sorry for you, Emmeline.”
Benjamin added, “Mr. Louise rushed here as soon as he heard about you from the nanny.”
Emmeline shot him a quick glare and mouthed, None of your business.
Benjamin coughed awkwardly and turned his attention elsewhere.
Ethan, with his usual bluntness, asked, “Isn’t that right, Abel? You can’t rely on Adrien when you really need him!”
Abel didn’t answer, trying to pull his hand away, but Ethan held on tight.
“Watch your words, brat!” Adam’s voice was sharp as he stepped forward, glaring at Ethan. “You’re in no position to speak here!”
Ethan finally let go of Abel’s hand, his voice turning bitter. “Where is Adrien when my sister needs him? He’s the father of the child!”
Julianna, appearing agitated, stomped over to Ethan. “My son is no worse than Abel! He’s just busy with something important and can’t leave right now!”
Ethan shot back, “He’s worse because he’s not here when his son needs him! Instead, Abel is here!”
Grace, supporting her husband, added, “Don’t forget that Abel saved your grandson! You should be grateful for that!”
Emmeline, feeling the tension rising, cut them off. “Alright, that’s enough!” she said, her voice impatient. “You can all keep your opinions to yourselves. Things are already messed up enough as it is.”
Benjamin, seeing the frustration in Emmeline’s eyes, cleared his throat. “Ms. Louise, if you ever need anything, Adelmar Group will always be here for you…”
Emmeline shot him a quick, tight-lipped smile. “Thank you, but I don’t think I’m worthy.”
Benjamin immediately fell silent, sensing that his offer had only made things worse.
The operation lasted for eight hours, and after a tense period of waiting, it was declared a success. Abel and Hesperus were both transferred to the sterile room for observation.
Hesperus would need to be monitored for 72 hours in case of transplant rejection, while Abel would need six hours to recover.
Meanwhile, Rosaline and Alana left the hospital, returning to Levan Mansion.
Later that evening, after dinner, little Timothy climbed onto Rosaline’s lap and looked up at her with concern. “Granny, is Star feeling better? Is he still angry at me?”
Rosaline smiled down at him, brushing a hand through his hair. “Don’t worry, Timothy. Star is getting better, and he’s not angry at you.”
