Chapter 75

The bartender behind the counter was stunned. He watched as Abel casually flicked a bottle cap toward a woman’s beer glass. In an instant, the glass exploded.

Not only was Abel the head of the Ryker Group, but he was also incredibly skilled. The bartender shuddered and quickly topped up Abel’s glass.

After that incident, the other guests at the bar learned to keep their distance. None of the female guests dared to get within ten feet of Abel. And none of the male guests did either—no one wanted to risk offending the man, who seemed to be in a foul mood.

Despite this, the night continued. People drank to their fill, and soon almost everyone was drunk. Abel was no exception. Luca, ever loyal, helped him back to his car.

“Mr. Ryker, are you heading back to the mansion?” Luca asked as he started the ignition.

“You idiot!” Abel slurred. “I’m going back to the café, of course! I pay my rent on time! It’d be a waste of money if I didn’t sleep there.”

A waste of money? Luca wasn’t convinced. But with Emmeline still at the hospital with their son, there was no one at the café to keep Abel company if he went back there.

Still, he had to follow Abel’s orders. Luca stepped on the gas pedal and drove the nearly unconscious Abel back to the café.

It was very late by the time they arrived. Daisy opened the door and wrinkled her nose at the strong smell of alcohol emanating from Abel.

“My goodness, why is he so drunk?” Daisy asked, covering her nose.

“Mr. Ryker wasn’t in a good mood, so he had a little more to drink,” Luca explained, smiling awkwardly.

Daisy frowned. “He shouldn’t be torturing himself like that. Help him to his room. I’ll make some hot tea for him.”

“Thank you so much, ma’am,” Luca said gratefully.

Daisy helped Luca bring the nearly comatose Abel upstairs to his room. She then went to the second-floor kitchen to prepare the tea.

Luca helped Abel change into dry clothes and wiped his face with a clean towel. Soon, Daisy came upstairs with a mug of hot tea. Together, they managed to get the sugary liquid down Abel’s throat.

After a while, Abel stirred and opened his eyes.

Once Daisy saw that he was awake, she left to go back downstairs, leaving Luca to keep watch over Abel.

“Get out,” Abel groaned, pinching his forehead in irritation.

“Huh?” Luca asked, confused.

“I said, get out,” Abel repeated. “I’m feeling better now, and I want to take a shower. You can leave.”

“But you’re still drunk,” Luca insisted. “I should stay and make sure you’re okay.”

“Get lost! I’m not into men at all! People will think otherwise if you stay!” Abel snapped.

Luca shuddered at the thought. He was actively trying to find a girlfriend and didn’t want people to misunderstand his relationship with Abel.

Seeing that Abel was indeed fine as he claimed, Luca quickly grabbed the car keys and hastily left the room.

“I’ll be in the parking lot. Call me if you need anything!”

“Mm.” Abel waved his hand dismissively, already in the process of loosening his necktie. Luca, that idiot. He loosened my tie but didn’t remove it! He doesn’t know how to take care of people!

Abel peeled off his clothes and took a cold shower. By the time he finished, he was sober, though still feeling a little dizzy.

He changed into pajamas and sat by the window. He craved some fresh air and thought about lighting a cigarette.

Just as he reached for one from the box, he noticed a car pulling up in front of the café.

It was Adrien’s sports car.

Abel froze, the cigarette already in his mouth, his hand with the lighter hanging in mid-air.

Moments later, he saw Adrien step out of the car, walk to the passenger side, and open the door. Emmeline stepped out, looking forlorn beneath the cold streetlight.

Abel’s jaw clenched, and he bit down hard on the cigarette.

Emmeline’s back… That must mean Hesperus is safe now.

The hospital didn’t allow visitors after hours, and the professional staff could take care of their son.

Abel continued to watch the scene unfold, his mind racing with thoughts.
