Chapter 83
“Hey, let me go!” Emmeline whispered, her voice tinged with embarrassment. “Luca is over there!”
Abel paid her no mind, continuing to lower his head as he moved in, intent on capturing her lips.
But just before he could touch her, a cold finger stopped him.
“Thank you for saving me,” Emmeline said with a wry smile, “but… let’s skip this.”
Abel lifted his head, a hoarse chuckle escaping his throat. “Ahem. I was thinking of punishing you for your disobedience!”
Luca, standing outside the car, couldn’t help but laugh under his breath. To Mr. Ryker, the idea of a ‘punishment’ is a kiss! Too bad he didn’t get what he wanted!
“Go away!” Abel snapped, finally finding a way to release his frustration.
Luca, chuckling nervously, hurriedly backed away.
Soon, the police cars arrived, taking the thugs away, and Abel’s Rolls-Royce smoothly pulled out of the scene.
In a nearby corner, Alana’s face was pale with fury as she watched everything unfold from her car. She clenched her stomach in rage, the knot of jealousy and humiliation growing tighter with each passing second.
Not only did Abel not admit to violating me, but he’s acting all intimate with Emmeline! And he saved her! That btch!*
Her grip tightened on the wheel as she muttered through gritted teeth, “Emmeline Louise and Abel Ryker! You two have gone too far this time!”
She was about to start the car and leave when someone knocked on her window.
Turning, she froze in shock. Standing outside her car was a familiar face.
“Adam?”
“Open the door,” came Adam’s cold, authoritative voice.
Alana hastily pressed a button, and Adam opened the door before sliding into the passenger seat.
“I’ll handle the surveillance cameras. Don’t worry,” Adam said flatly.
Alana’s heart skipped a beat. She hesitated before speaking. “Adam… did… did you see everything?”
Adam’s eyes met hers, his expression unreadable. “You want to get rid of that woman, right?”
Alana gasped, her anxiety spiking. Oh no, Adam knows what I was planning! I’ve heard he’s the most ruthless member of the Ryker family!
“Don’t worry,” Adam continued, his voice colder than before. “I won’t sell you out.”
Relief mixed with unease, and Alana’s voice trembled slightly. “What do you want in return? I know you must want something.”
Adam sneered. “You’re a smart one. I’ll let you know when I think of something.”
“But I need your help now, Adam.” Alana leaned toward him, her voice soft and persuasive.
Without hesitation, Adam grabbed her slender waist, pulling her closer.
“Heh, is this your revenge on Abel? Hugging another man while carrying his child?” he mocked.
Alana’s eyes narrowed. “If you help me get rid of Emmeline Louise, I’ll do anything for you!” Her tone became more seductive as she leaned in closer, showing her more alluring side.
“Agreed,” Adam said abruptly, gripping the back of her neck and shoving her away. “But I’m not interested in your body.”
Alana recoiled, confused but relieved that the deal had been made.
Back at the café, Emmeline carefully tended to Abel’s wound with the first aid kit. As she focused on the task, Abel couldn’t help but notice the delicate flush on her cheeks, the soft curve of her long eyelashes.
A thought suddenly struck him. There was something oddly familiar about Emmeline’s face, something that tugged at the edge of his memory.
He remembered the woman he had violated five years ago, and for the first time, he questioned if that woman had been Emmeline rather than Alana. When he had lifted the towel from the woman’s face back then, her features had been strikingly similar to Emmeline’s.
Back then, he had only met Alana once and hadn’t formed a lasting impression of her. Ten months later, Alana showed up at Meriwether Mansion with a baby, and Abel had assumed the woman from the hotel was Alana.
The DNA test had confirmed that Timothy was his biological son.
But now, as he stared closely at Emmeline, he began to wonder if his memory was playing tricks on him.
Emmeline, sensing his intense gaze, lifted her head suddenly. “You seem distracted,” she said with a soft smile. “What are you thinking?”
Abel lowered his gaze quickly. “Oh, I was just reminiscing about something.”
She finished wrapping the bandage around his arm. “Would you tell me? I’d like to hear more about your past.”
Abel shook his head slightly. “Never mind. There’s nothing interesting about my past.”
“Fine then, keep your secrets,” Emmeline said with a teasing smile, helping him into his coat. “I’ll make some spaghetti for you and Luca.”
Abel glanced over at Luca, who was standing by the door, arms crossed. Why does Luca get to eat too?
