Chapter 64
In the afternoon, a car from Meriwether Mansion arrived to pick up Emmeline.
To her surprise, the driver was not Adrien.
She later learned that Adrien had drunk a little too much the night before and was nursing a hangover. Emmeline felt a twinge of disappointment.
Why must that man be my son’s father? Wouldn’t Abel be a better choice? she thought with a sigh.
By the time Emmeline arrived at Meriwether Mansion, the place was already buzzing with activity. Guests had started to arrive, and the atmosphere was lively.
Landen and Lewis, Oscar’s two sons, had returned from abroad for the occasion. The only person missing was Adam Ryker, Landen’s eldest son. Adam was the most promising candidate to take the helm of the Ryker family business, but Oscar had disqualified him at the last minute, a move that had caused a rift between them. Adam resented his grandfather for the decision and hadn’t shown up at family gatherings since.
On the other hand, Landen was overjoyed at the arrival of his three new grandsons. Oscar shared in his joy, thrilled by the fact that he had three more great-grandchildren.
It didn’t matter who their father was; what mattered most was that they were his great-grandsons.
Meanwhile, Lewis’ family was quieter, with fewer members. Rosaline stood at the sidelines, forcing a smile, while Alana stood with her stomach pushed out, trying to attract attention. She was barely two months pregnant, and the bump was hardly noticeable.
Abel, standing some distance away, acted as though he had nothing to do with the spectacle around him.
The three boys—Sun, Moon, and Star—were dressed in identical black suits, their hair neatly combed back. They looked handsome and adorable, earning cheers from the gathered crowd.
Julianna, beaming with pride, couldn’t stop smiling, though her botoxed face was beginning to show signs of strain.
“Sun, Moon, and Star’s mother deserves to be rewarded for blessing the Ryker family with three grandsons!” Landen exclaimed. “And Adrien will throw a grand wedding reception for her!”
Julianna’s smile grew even wider at the mention of the wedding. As Adrien’s mother, she couldn’t have been prouder.
Oscar chimed in, “I’ll reward Adrien’s wife-to-be as well! She’s blessed our family with three direct descendants!”
Adrien, stumbling down the stairs, couldn’t help but shout, “I love Emmeline! I want to marry her!”
“That’s right, my son!” Julianna cheered. “Who knows, maybe she’ll bear another set of triplets when she’s pregnant again. I’d love some granddaughters!”
“I will win her heart!” Adrien declared confidently.
Julianna and Adrien exchanged a high-five, full of excitement.
But not everyone shared in the happiness.
Rosaline’s face was twisted with indignation. Meriwether Mansion was openly welcoming Emmeline and her children into the fold, and they even wanted Emmeline to bear more children for them. It was infuriating!
Emmeline herself was far from pleased. Must I give birth to another set of triplets? she thought, her frustration mounting.
Alana, too, was furious. Emmeline doesn’t deserve this treatment! I’ve been trying to get Abel’s attention for years, but Levon Mansion still hasn’t taken me in! She fumed as she watched Abel, who seemed deliberately indifferent to her. Look at him standing there, completely ignoring me!
Alana had never felt so humiliated.
“Alana is pregnant too!” Alondra suddenly spoke up, trying to shift the focus away from Emmeline. “In a few months, Alana will grace the Ryker family with another grandchild. She hasn’t had her check-up yet, but who knows? Maybe she’ll have twins—or even triplets!”
Alana played along, lowering her head shyly and gently touching her flat abdomen.
Rosaline, eager to keep the spotlight on her daughter, dragged Abel over to her side. “Abel, you should find some time to register your marriage with Alana. It’s time to add a new member to Levon Mansion!”
Abel remained silent, his face as cold and hard as an ice sculpture.
Alana turned her gaze toward him, only to be struck by an unpleasant surprise.
Abel was wearing the cheap black suit Emmeline had bought him the day before.
The head of Ryker Group, one of the most influential figures in Struyria, was dressed in a mass-produced, hundred-dollar suit!
